Price one surface the same as another
Lots of surfaces are priced the same way. Tile, stone and concrete, for example, often share one set of square-foot rates. Instead of typing the same tiers three times, set them up once on Tile and point the others at it.
Set it up
- Settings → rates, open the rate set (Standard or a contract set).
- Open the surface you want to follow another one — say Stone.
- Price same as → choose Tile.
Stone's own rate rows disappear and it shows Same as Tile. From now on Stone uses Tile's:
- square-foot tiers or bands, and tier style
- stairs rates (per step, width scaling, per set)
- residential per-room, hall, closet, landing and oversized-room rates
Change Tile's rates and every surface linked to it follows. The surface keeps its own name and proposal wording.
Add the square footage together?
Each linked surface has a switch: Add sq ft together with Tile. It's on unless you turn it off.
| Job | Switch on | Switch off |
|---|---|---|
| 400 sq ft tile + 300 sq ft stone | Priced together at the 700 sq ft rate, each pays its share | Tile priced at 400, stone priced at 300 — same rates, separate tiers |
Example with Tile at $0.75 for the first 500 sq ft and $0.50 after:
- On: 700 sq ft = 500 × $0.75 + 200 × $0.50 = $475 (tile $271.43, stone $203.57)
- Off: tile 400 × $0.75 = $300, concrete 300 × $0.75 = $225 = $525
On the estimate, a combined group explains itself: Tile + Stone: 700 sq ft… Priced together (same rates). Multi-location and repeat-cleaning volume still apply on top.
Unlinking
Choose Its own rates. The surface keeps the rates it had (Tile's, at that moment) and you can change them from there.
Good to know
- A surface can only follow one that has its own rates — no chains.
- The Price Sheet prints linked surfaces on one table: Tile / Stone / Concrete.
- The office web page's Settings → Rate sets has the same Price same as choice and switch.
- If you remove the surface others follow, they keep the last rates they had.
