Most companies charge less per foot on bigger jobs. There are two ways to do it, and the difference matters.
Whole job at one rate (tiers)
The whole job gets the rate of the tier it lands in. Simple to explain — "your rate is $0.32 a foot" — but a bigger job can come out cheaper than a smaller one:
Job
Rate
Price
1,495 sq ft
$0.42
$627.90
1,501 sq ft
$0.32
$480.32
The app prevents that: a job is never priced below the top of a smaller tier. Jobs just past a tier change are held at that price until the lower rate catches up.
Graduated bands
Each rate applies only to the feet inside its band, like tax brackets. With $0.42 for the first 1,500 and $0.21 after:
Job
Price
Average per ft
1,500 sq ft
$630
$0.42
3,000 sq ft
$945
$0.32
10,000 sq ft
$2,415
$0.24
A bigger job always costs more, and the average slides toward your lowest rate without going under it.
Set it up
Open a rate set. At the top, under How Sq Ft Tiers Price, choose Graduated bands or Whole job at one rate.
Open a surface and enter its rows: From (where the band or tier starts) and the rate. Tap Add Sq Ft Band for more. The last one is open-ended.
Any surface can override the rate set's choice with its own Sq ft tiers setting.
On an estimate, all the square feet for the same service are priced together and then shared back to each room — a 20-room building gets the big-job rate, not 20 small-job rates.
